This is the connecting passageway ahead of Boiler room Six. The ladder served as an escape route for when the watertight doors were closed. In James Cameron's movie, the door on the right led to the cargo hold where the Renault Coupe Deville was stored as Jack and Rose entered the area through here. There were a few inaccuracies in that scene though, the Renault was stored two decks above and this cargo hold did not have any stairwell inside.
